Custom Fields - where we can use a date to filter information

For example - I have to add in custom fields for accreditation documents, that would have an expiry date. For example First Aid Certificates. First Aid certificates normally expire every 3 years. So I am adding custom fields to store the first aid certificate and also a custom field so that i can put in an expiry date.
